I am pleased to announce an installation of recent work at The Hub SoMa in San Francisco.
The installation includes several large new polyptychs, and pieces from a major new body of work, THE LAGUNITAS PROJECT. Polyptychs are the primary focus of my current work, and this is their first public showing. Also in the installation are two polyptychs from the WATER: snow series.
There will be an artist’s reception at The Hub at 5:00pm on Friday June 3. Other viewing opportunities will be announced throughout the summer.

This spring, I embarked on a major new artistic project. THE LAGUNITAS PROJECT is an exploration of the human relationship to water. I am interested in the human experience, as an experience of self, embedded in nature. From this perspective, the world is self, and is sacred. Conversely, it is our illusion of separateness from nature that is the source of much suffering in the world. I work from the position that humanity is not separate from nature, but is a part of the natural world, and that the breaking of the illusion of separateness is the catalyst for positive social change, and the alleviation of suffering.
Formally, my artwork is an exploration of the juxtaposition of image and form. Images are like crystals frozen in the mind, and it is from this crystallization that they derive their power. Form challenges the body to engage with it; to become a part of it. The photographic image reduces experience to what can be perceived through the visual cortex at a single moment in time -as mediated through the technology of the photographic equipment. Time stops, and form becomes flat. The re-introduction of form provides a means of re-engagement with the body and, along with the use of multiple-imagery, provides an opportunity for a deeper expression of experience.
